There are very few ways to make good friends. Sometimes it takes an eternity to be able to trust someone. Losing friends on the other hand, or simply making rivals is achievable in a couple of minutes.
However, one of the best ways out of many, to make rivals, or simply enemies is by discussing one's political views in the recent times. The moment a person realizes how every component in this societal structure is there to make us abide increasingly, s/he also realizes the herd mentality politicians try to invoke in us. Spreading fear is the most effective tool for this invocation. Racism, casteism etc are other sure-shot alternatives.
While the setup of the society wants to bring us in line, to ensure 'peace and order', one must not get lost in this endless pursuit of conformity. We are born as individuals, our dealings must be individual, our personality and traits must be unique. It's perfectly okay to be a little crazy too. All your idiosyncrasies are forgiven, if what you do is not easily beatable. Hustle hard, sleep harder, or just longer, is what I mean.
